My Campaign for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch
The Highlands is my home. It’s where I’m bringing up my family, and it’s why it’s a real privilege to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency at the 2026 Holyrood election.
Over the past 18 years, people across the Highlands have been promised a great deal but delivered far too little. More and more communities feel taken for granted. My campaign is focused on the priorities I hear about every day when I’m out listening—from Carrbridge to Carbost, Dingwall to Duror.
First, infrastructure. We’ve waited years for action on the A9, while on the west coast the A82 remains in desperate need of upgrading. Roads, ferries and transport links across the Highlands have been neglected for far too long, holding back communities and local economies.
Second, healthcare. Whether it’s the struggle to find an NHS dentist, long waits for hospital appointments, or the pressure on Raigmore Hospital, it’s clear the system is under immense strain. Fixing the NHS is personal to me, and I will fight for fair funding and services that work for rural and island communities.
Third, education. As a parent of two teenagers, I want young people growing up here to have the opportunities they deserve. We are letting down pupils, teachers and families, and that must change.
My experience as a councillor has taught me that too many decisions affecting the Highlands are made in Holyrood, not locally. Centralisation has weakened local democracy and left communities like Aviemore, Dingwall, Portree and Fort William overlooked. I believe decisions should be made closer to the people they affect.
This campaign is about restoring trust, standing up for our communities, and giving the Highlands a strong, independent voice at Holyrood—one that listens first, challenges power, and delivers real change.
